Pair of flintlock pocket pistols with exposed side-lock actions, folding triggers, checkered-walnut grips, .50 caliber, 2-inch screw-off barrels. 7” overall. Engraved in two cartouches on barrels “H. W. Mortimer & Son 89 Pleet St., Gunmaker to His Majesty.” The pair show well-formed cocks with swan-necks outside frizen spring with roller. Nicely floral engraved tangs and typical Mortimer checkering with swirl pattern around wood butts. The bright metal surfaces are in a well-preserved state with just some slight beginning erosion, natural aging. The engraving is sharp, and the pair are in their original flintlock configuration with correct hammers, frizens, and small parts. The stocks are good to very good, with a couple of bumps and slight normal aging. This pair are very similar to those shown on page 211 of the book by H. Lee Munson, who dates a similar pair about 1789 to 1806. Est. $2,500 - $5000.
