Pair of flintlock pistols by Alvan Pratt of Sutton, Mass, circa approx. 1815, with period hide-covered saddle holsters with original harness straps and brass heart decoration. The pistols show original engraving on barrels Louisville" Lighthorse . The pistols measure approx. 15” overall with approx. 9” barrels of .60 caliber smoothbore and show metal keepers for metal ramrod which is now missing. The pistols are 7/8 stocked to the muzzle in good grained American" walnut and show raised silver eagles with shields nicely inlaid at wrist area, both pistols are stamped “Pratt” on the locks and show simple engraving with pineapple finials on brass triggerguards. The pistols are in untouched very good original condition with a grey to brown patina finish, some traces of case hardening on locks, light to slightly heavy scattered pitting and erosion with most of the heavy pitting on the barrels from being carried in the holsters and exposed to moisture. The stocks are very good plus showing just some handling, minor marks, normal use and carry, and one bad split to the stock with a loss at the rear of the ramrod area.
