Ketland & Co, measuring approx. 14” overall, 7-3/4” brass barrels with brass mounts. .54 caliber smoothbore, one pistol in original flint, the other converted to percussion. Both show “MS” stamp on left si of lock, indicating use by Massachusetts state militia, with 1812 eagle cockade, which is associated with these pistols, and a original publication Militia Laws of the United States and Massachusetts, May 1st 1836 inscribed with officer’s name “Capt. Conat” on front and an original 1813-dated book entitled Elements of War embossed Massachusetts Militia on front, inscribed in pen “Col. Of I Reg, 1 Brig, 7 Div Militia, Mass”. The pistols also show small brass collection tags, “78” and “79”, which are very old and probably indicate these were in a large foundation or museum collection. The pair remain in very good untouched original condition. The flintlock shows all its original small parts. Some slight scratches, minor marks, normal aging and use. An old wood ramrod is included. There is no cleaning or polishing in modern times. The mate shows a light patina on the barrel, some light cleaning long ago to the front of the lock. The
