Pair of cased percussion target/dueling pistols circa approx. 1850, Belgian proofed and cased, serial numbered “307” on the left breech of each barrel. Pistols measure approx. 13-1/2” overall with 6-3/4” octagon barrels of .60 caliber, microgrooved rifled, half stocked, late backaction locks. The pistols shows a grey to brown patina finish, some light erosion just starting, but generally very good overall with most of their Damascus pattern showing on the barrels. The checkered wood stocks are good with just normal wear and aging, a few blemishes and minor imperfections. One pistol shows a stress crack on the underside of the forend, which is minor. The edges are good, the actions crisp. Generally good overall, with a small chip from one buttplate. The pair are cased in a green felt-lined case which is of a later period using an early flintlock type leather-covered case, which is from the late 18th to early 19th century. This associated case has been with the pistols a long while and probably was dealer added after the turn of the century. The case is fair to good showing some scuffs, splits, and small damages.
