Included here is a matching pair of chests with blond finish, circa 1940s or 1950s, made by the Red Lion Furniture Company for the Westerly Furniture Company. Tall chest measures 47" high, 40" wide and 20" deep. Low chest measures 32" high, 48" wide and 20" deep. These dressers feature cedar-lined drawers, curved patinated metal pulls, lovely burled maple veneer drawer fronts, maple sides and tops, and linear splayed legs. Condition is very good. There are some dings and scratches noticeable on the legs and blond finish.

The Red Lion Furniture Co. originated in 1907 in Red Lion PA outside of Philadelphia. They are known to have produced designs for Bloomingdale's and the Heywood-Wakefield Company. Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen created an important line of bedroom furniture for Red Lion in the early 1960s.

Ths designer of this pair of chests is not known. They bear a strong resemblence to chests designed in the 1940s by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller. A pair of such chests is currently offered by Florian Papp, one of the premier Manhattan dealers of 19th and vintage 20th century furniture. The metal drawer pulls on our pair of chests can be seen on a buffet attributed to James Mont, also from Florian Papp. Thanks for visiting. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.
