<B>Pair of Scovill Mfg. Co.Henry Clay Buttons.</B></I> These superbly made, heavily gilt buttons carry a bust of Henry Clay and would have been worn by the great statesman's ardent disciples prior to the Civil War. The first, a 23mm coat button, reads "Henry Clay 1845" around the portrait. It has an ornamental rim and a high quality brass back with stand-up shank. Listed as Albert's 206A and very rare. It's smaller 13mm companion is of similar construction and quality, however lacks Clay's name and date.
