Pair of Purdey Best Quality 12 gauge Back-Action Side-Lock 12 gauge Exposed Hammer Double Barrel Shotguns in their original case with Royal Crests, serial # 10348 and #10349. The pair are equipped with 30” Damascus Patterned barrels and are beautifully stocked in exceptional Burl Walnut with checkered stocks and checkered English style butts. The actions are finely Banknote Scroll engraved as are the locks and mounts. The pair show a London Quality refurbish to tobacco brown on bbl. which is perfectly redone (possibly by Purdey) and 98-99% remains on each barrel with breech ends bright polished as is proper. The frames and lock plates retain 80-90% original case hardened colors which are mostly vibrant. The trigger guards and release levers retain 90-95% original Robin’s egg blue finish. The stocks show light refreshing and wood to metal fit is incredible. The barrels show Nitro Proofs for 2 ¾” and 3 ¼ tons. The bores are excellent and the guns lock like a bank vault. The pair have seen little use and the restoration is perfect. The original leather over oak carrying case shows an owner’s plaque engraved with a 7 painted crown and B.B. with one reversed. Consignor was informed that this was the Crest of Baron Debrinken and the same style Crest is engraved on one of the two silver plaques on the belly of each stock. The exterior of the case is original and good with normal scuffs and aging. The interior is an excellent relining with later label possible accomplished when browning was done in London. The case retains Purdey snap-caps, English oiler and Moroccan leather pocket set with bore cleaner which is gold embossed James Purdey & Sons LTD. As fine a set of Hammer Shotguns as we have seen offered on the auction block in a decade. Est. $25,000-50,000
