Pair of Proofs of Dennis The Menace Comic 1974
Offered in this lot are rare, original, framed black and white and color proofs of the “Dennis the Menace” comic strip. This is a 1974 color proof with production color notes intact and the larger black and white "blocking" proof. In this strip, Dennis’ mother is borrowing from his piggy bank to pay the paper boy, which gives Dennis some ideas of his own. Henry King Ketcham (March 14, 1920 – June 1, 2001) was an American cartoonist who created the “Dennis the Menace” comic strip, writing and drawing it from 1951 to 1994. He started “Dennis the Menace” based on his own four-year-old son, Dennis. The proofs are matted and framed in black. In plastic, on the back of the color proof, is the newspaper clipping of “Dennis the Menace” 50th birthday and another clipping of Hank Ketcham's passing. On the color proof, the art showing is 13 1/2" X 9 1/2". The frame measures 18 3/4 X 14 1/2". In the black and white proof, the art measures 15 3/4"X23" and the frame measures 28 1/2" X 21".
