Pair of Large Sevres Porcelain and Ormolu-Mounted Lamps
An impressive and finely executed pair of large Sevres porcelain vases, now mounted as lamps, dating to the late 19th century. Each of baluster urn form with rich bleu de roi grounds, the fronts finely hand-painted with romantic figural scenes in the Rococo manner, and the reverses decorated with idyllic landscapes. The reserves are framed with lavish raised gilt scrollwork, further enhanced by delicate foliate and floral details characteristic of Sevres' finest decoration. The vases are mounted with elaborate ormolu mounts, including scrolling acanthus handles, molded collars, and square bases with paw feet, all with a warm, time-softened patina. The lamps retain their period twin-socket fittings with pull chains and are surmounted by finely cast pierced gilt foliate finials. A superb pair of authentic Sevres porcelain vases, exquisitely decorated and mounted, these lamps exemplify the opulence and artistry of French decorative arts and would make an exceptional statement in any distinguished interior.
