A pair of baluster-shaped Satsuma stoneware vases from the Meiji period, Japan. Each vase is decorated with finely painted and gilt scenes of figures in outdoor landscapes, rendered with intricate detail and surrounded by elaborate geometric and floral patterns. The vases feature applied gilt ring handles at the sides and raised decorative elements around the shoulder and base. The foot and neck are embellished with additional gilded designs, including Greek key motifs and latticework patterns. The surfaces display characteristic crackle glaze. Each vase measures: 5"L x 4.5"W x 10"H.
