Pair of Germanic Horseman’s size pistols circa about 1725 converted from Flintlock to percussion and signed “Meckel A. Suerin”. The pistols show nice quality engraved brass mounts with pierced serpentine type sideplates and ornate mask butts which show traces of gold gilt. The pair measure 20” overall with 13” barrels of approx 52 cal smooth bore. The metal surfaces are good with a light coating of surface rust andminor pinprick pitting needing a cleaning. Both stocks show small repairs in the fore ends and one pistol shows a large chip by butt cap but otherwise good with sharp carving around tangs and quality moldingaround mounts. The locks show good markings, horn tip ram rods of correct style are included but are different colors. A nice big pair of early pistols. From an old N.Y collector’s estate. Est.; $1,500-$3,000.
