Pair of Frontier Firearms - Plains Rifle Marked A. W. Spies, and Harpers Ferry Musket. a) NVSN, A. W. Spies Rifle with 32" octagon barrel, single key forearm, pewter nose cap, walnut stock, New York style trigger guard and stock. A.W. Spies was Active in New York in the 1830s. CONDITION: Iron parts are a deep chocolate brown, barrel edges are worn, dark bore, wood missing next to tang, wood missing left side of forearm, one ram rod thimble missing, brass head tack decoration shows frontier or possibly Native American use. b) Springfield 1855 Rifled Musket, NVSN, lock plate marked 1859, .58 caliber, Harpers Ferry, 40 inch barrel, Maynard tape primer, musket style wood, decorated with iron head tacks. The 1855 was the first rifle manufactured at both Springfield and Harpers Ferry with interchangeable parts CONDITION: metal plum brown overall, dark bore, forearm has been shortened to 3 inches from top barrel band, tape primer cover missing, no main spring, rear sight missing, condition and decoration denote possible Native American use.
