Pair of French dueling pistols with Mexican dealer or agent’s marking, circa approx. 1840’s to 50’s. The pistols are signed in gold, Robin a Mexico on locks, and in fancy script at breech ends of barrel. The pistols are approx. .45 caliber rifled, with 10-1/4” barrels. 16-1/2” overall. Barrels are finely fluted and the pistols are nicely engraved on locks, mounts, and barrels. The pistols are stocked in carved ebony and remain in very good plus to near fine condition, just some light erosion and aging just starting. The pistols are cased with a full complement of accessories including correct mold. The nipple wrench is a slightly undersized replacement of the right period and one accessory is missing. The exterior of the case shows a removal of plaque and a light old refinish. Along with 1853-dated book on dueling entitled Cartilla de Carabineros by Jose M. Bustamante as dedicated to General Santa-Anna. Published 1853. The only Mexican agent marked pair of duelers we have ever seen offered for sale on the auction market. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $12,500 - $25,000
