Pair of French blunderbuss pistols circa approx. third quarter of the 18th century, signed “Laurent / Gilles”. Approx. 12-1/2” overall with 6-1/4” radically flared bell-mouth muzzles which measure nearly1-1/2” across outer edges and approx. 1-1/4” bores. The pair are full stocked and iron mounted. The stocks are nicely carved with shell designs at the wrists. The barrels show traces of a Damascus type pattern. Thepistols are in their original flintlock configuration with one hammer restored. One top-jaw and screw are excellent replacements. The stocks show some excellent restorations to the wood and the pistols retain theiroriginal ramrods. Just the type of pistols that would have been carried by a French officer at about the period of the French Revolution. Pairs of flintlock blunderbuss’ are seldom encountered and are becoming rare.
