Very Rare Pair of French Flintlock Officer’s Holster Pistols by Pierre Coignet

c. 1730-1750, Colonial through French and Indian War & American Revolutionary War Period, Pair of French Flintlock Officer’s Holster Pistols, by Pierre Coignet, Choice Very Fine.

This is an original pair of French Silver Mounted Flintlock Officer's Holster Pistols of the French and Indian War & American Revolutionary War period, each with a 6.5" .55 cal. octagon-to-round iron barrel with light decorative engraving at breechs (once gold overlaid, now gone) and engraved tangs.  Locks are maker signed, “Pierre Coignet” with simple decorative engraving.  Fine high-relief silver furniture depicting panoplys-of-arms with French silversmith Hallmarks.  Stocks are solid with fine decorative silver wire inlay (99% intact) with high-relief boarder carving around all furniture; floral spray behind barrel tang with scratches and dings from years of service.  Both in good working order.  11.5" overall length (smaller than usually encountered). The maker, Pierre Coignet, worked in Saint Etienne 1720-1780.
