Produced without sights, with a slightly flared muzzle, ribbed breech section and "Edinburgh" on the top amid light scrollwork. Lock plate is marked "Ross" with border accents, scroll engraving on and around the hammer, high flash shield and a roller-equipped frizzen spring. Fitted with a metal stock, engraved along the sides and underside, and equipped with a metal ramrod, ball shaped trigger and a belt hook on the left side. Decorative scrolls are present on the butt, with a screwed-in vent hole pick, scroll, floral and dragon-head engraving on the sides of the grip, an image of a resting dog on the right side, surrounded by a looped belt with "DINNA WAKEN SLEEPING DOGS" marked on it. Active in Edinburgh circa 1815 - 1839, Daniel Ross is historically best known for his donation of the "Ross Fountain" to the city, which is regarded as one of the most elaborate fixtures of it's type.

Condition: Very fine, with a bright gray patina overall, scattered light pitting, a small spot of wear on the barrel from the frizzen, and mild handling marks overall. Engraving is well defined, and the action is excellent.
