(Disney, 1938) A pair of original production cels used in the creation of the Oscar-winning Walt Disney animated short, Ferdinand the Bull. The first of the hand-painted cels features the Matador doffing his hat to the crowd and the second is an image of Ferdinand, ever the gentle aesthete, gazing admiringly at a butterfly. Attentive viewers might notice a striking resemblance of the Matador to Walt Disney, as the character was created as his caricature. The cels are on hand-painted Courvoisier-prepared backgrounds and framed under glass. Both frames retain Courvoisier Galleries Certificates of Authenticity on the reverse. The Matador has an image size of 7.5"x6.5" within its 15.5"x13.5" frame and appears to be in good condition with some waviness to the cel. Ferdinand has an image size of 6.75"x6.75" within its 15.75"x14.75" frame and appears to be in very good condition with minor wear. For the continued preservation of the cel setups, the cels have not been examined out of frame. The backing paper is detached from the Ferdinand frame, and Matador frame exhibits tearing to the backing paper which has bisected the COA.
