Pair of English saw handle back-action percussion pistols signed “Moore London” the pair measure approx 13” overall with 7-3/4” octagon barrels of approx. 54 caliber smooth bore. The pair show single set triggersengraved German silver mounts with cap box in butt. The stocks are checkered and the barrels show a gold and silver band at breech. The metal shows a brown patina with some light to moderate pitting and erosion.The stocks are good with some small losses, minor cracks, normal wear and aging. The locks are working, the engraving is fairly crisp. There is a period engraved small ovoid plaque into top of saw handle at rearwhich is engraved “T.P. to Philip Pike”. The ramrod thimbles have been resoldered. The pair are contained within a modern case for display with a polished bag shaped flask marked “Hawksley”. These pistols were goodfor dueling or self defense and are of the type that were imported and used in the South shortly before the Civil War. Est.;$1,750-$3,500.
