Pair of English flintlock pistols made in Continental form signed “Taylor” on locks, “Sanders” on barrels and showing British proofs and maker’s proofs at left rear of breech. The pair measure 15-1/2” overall with 9-1/2” octagon barrels of medium weight in approx. 52 caliber smoothbore. The locks and stocking follow a mid to late 18th century form. The pistols are full stocked in select walnut with quality raised carving around the mounts and fine molding. The mounts are gold gilted over brass and the butts show Hapsburg style “Parrot Eagle”. The mounts are fancily decorated with scrolls and there is a crown at the apex of the owner’s plaque mounted in tang. The pair is in good to very good original condition and not reconverted. The metal surfaces show light cleaning and normal aging. The stocks are good to very good with normal aging and a few small losses with minor imperfections. A fine pair made in a form popular in Continental Europe before the French Revolution. Est.: $3,500-$7,000.
