Pair of Colt Model 1849 percussion pocket revolvers, both are .31 caliber and are contained in a customized old draftsman’s instrument wood box with bullet mold, brass eagle flask and Remington Arms Co. cap tin.This lot is accompanied by a letter from noted Western author and collector Lee Silva who states “I bought #196893 in Monterey, California, in the summer of 2009 and #196601 in San Diego, California, in the spring of2010.” He also notes since the guns are only 292 numbers apart and both found in California, he decided to keep them together and had a restorer make the partitions in the old wood casing to fit the contours of theguns, powder flask, bullet mould and cap tin, to preserve the guns, not to in any way attempt to represent it as an original case for the guns. The first revolver, serial #196893 is in overall good to very goodcondition showing an even brown patina on metal surfaces, 6” octagon barrel, good bore, action and markings, grips are overall good with some nicks and mars from carry and storage, all matching serial numbers except
