Pair of Colt Bisley model flat top target revolvers, .38 Colt caliber (2 of 96 made in this cal) factory full blue finish, hard-rubber grips, period inscribed “James J. Goodbody” on backstraps. In original to the period leather over wood carrying case. Plaque in top of lid inscribed “Colt’s Pt. F. A. Mgf. Co. Hartford, CT, USA. 1903. Representative James J. Goodbody.” James J. Goodbody was indeed a Colt representative and is pictures at the Bisley matches at the Colt display circa 1900 in an original photograph housed in the Connecticut state library collection, a copy of which is included, and which is also shown in The Book of Colt Firearms by Sutherland and Wilson on page 267, illustration F. Numerous letters from and to Howard “Bud” Goebel trace the identity of James Goodbody. The most interesting of which noted author Joseph G. Rosa mentions he knew Goodbody’s daughter and that she worked at the London agency with her father and met Buffalo Bill. Serial #243112 features are confirmed by factory letter, inscription is not listed, sent to J. B. Crook & Co. New York New York, September 21st 1903, two guns in shipment.
