Pair of Boutet Flintlock center hammer muff pistols marked “Manf Royal a Versailles” circa restoration period after the fall of Napoleon. The pair show checkered ebony bag shaped grips measure 6” overall with 1-1/2”barrels of approx. 50 cal smooth bore. The pair show a light border engraving with well executed vine and urn motif around folding triggers. The barrels are numbered 8 on the screw off lug and the pistols are matchedwith serial #74. The metal surfaces are in very good plus to near fine condition showing natural patina on their polished bright metal original finish. The original top jaws and small parts are all retained. Thestocks are also near fine with just one small age crack and sharp checkering. Considered by many the finest gun maker of the 19th century who was educated as a architect and designer hence his pistols have incredibleform. Boutet directed the arsenal at Versailles for a short time in the Royal restoration period before moving to Paris. Est.;$7,000-$14,000.
