Pair of American percussion target/dueling pistols signed “A. McComas, Baltimore”. The pair are approx. .50 caliber smoothbore with 10” medium to slightly heavy weight octagon barrels, 15-1/2” overall, half stocked. The pistols show well-made V-notch rear sight, bead front sight, adjustable set trigger, the pair show 50-70% original brown lightening stripped barrels drifting to grey with some slight erosion and staining, just beginning pinprick pitting. The locks and hammer show 80-90 original case hardening just toning and graying, going to a natural patina. The triggerguards show 75-85% bright original bright blue finish, the stocks are sharp and are well checkered and show a select grain walnut and most of their original varnish, at least 90%. Some minor scratches and storage marks. The pair show horn forend caps, original to the period brass tipped ramrods, the actions are crisp, the pistols are very good plus overall. The pair are contained within their original to the period French style recessed case lined in rose colored cotton velveteen. The box shows some wear at the contact points and edges, some minor fading, normal aging, but generally the interior is very good. An original to the case
