Pair of American percussion dueling pistols marked Blunt & Syms, New York, cased with accessories. The pistols are inlaid with plaques at the wrists that are period engraved in script "Thiene quoi qu'advienne". The pair measure 15-1/2" overall, with 9-1/4" octagon barrels of medium to heavy weight, measuring almost 3/4" across the flats of the muzzle, in .50 cal. smooth bore. The pair are German silver mounted and show double gold bands at breech, browned barrels, case hardened locks, blued small parts. The pair are nicely stocked in walnut with checkered wrists; the barrels retain 75-85% original brown finish showing a nicepattern with some erosion, natural aging just starting. The locks , tangs and breeches show 60-80% case hardening with some areas of very good rainbow colors, just starting to tone. The stocks are very good+, the mountsare nicely engraved, the floorplates and set triggers show most of their bright fire blue. Two brass tipped correct style ramrods are included.
