<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4"><tr><td><em> </em></td></tr><tr> <td width="100%"> This group of Foo Dogs are very well carved with great workmanship. One is a Mother Foo Dog Playing ball with a baby Foo Dog, the other is a Father Foo Dog playing ball with a cub on its back. The Chinese foo dog is considered sacred in the Buddhist religion. They are ancient sacred canines of Asia that were used as guards for the Buddhist temples. Foo dogs or foo lions are commonly found near temples, garden entrances and homes for they are considered protectors of buildings and guard against evil spirits. It is said that the open-mouthed foo dog eats in all evil spirits and they cannot escape for the closed mouth pair keeps it contained. "The male foo dog with his left foot resting on the world represents success and protection of worldly goods. The female foo dog has her right foot resting on a baby foo dog representing protection of home and family. The raised foot of the foo dog is always on the inside so that the world and family remain safe. I just bought a green Burmese (Myanmar) jade foo dog pendant from E-bay. Foo dogs are not dogs they are stylized lion carvings. From what I understand in the Buddhist faith, the lion is considered to be a noble and divine animal, a protector of truth and against evil in all forms. I also read that "Fu" in Chinese means "luck" or "happiness" and that the Foo Dogs are lucky, happy lions that bring good fortune and scare away evil. </td></tr><tr> <td> </td></tr><tr> <td>Reference #: AA06030330</td></tr><tr><td>Condition:Excellent</td></tr><tr><td>Year:19/ 20 Century</td></tr><tr><td>Country:China</td></tr><tr><td>Height:1.75</td></tr><tr><td>Depth:2.4</td></tr><tr><td>Width:3.8</td></tr><tr><td>Weight:1.17</td></tr><tr><td>Title:Pair Shoushan Stone Foo Dogs Fu Lions Carvings</td></tr><tr><td>Materials:Shoushan Stone</td></tr><tr><td>Type:Hand Carved</td></tr><tr><td>Location:Canton</td></tr></table>
