<B>Pair of Quarter Plate Ruby Ambrotypes,</B></I> pencil dated “<I>Sep. 21, 1857</B></I>” and signed “<I>H. E. Couch Artist</B></I>” on case manufacturer’s label behind right image. These portraits of a middle-aged couple are housed together in a scarce double thermoplastic case embossed on both sides with “Sir Roger deCoverly and the Gypsies”, <I>Krainik 30</B></I>. The gentleman’s image suffers a few long cracks that are hardly noticeable unless removed from the case. His wife’s portrait is, however, intact.
