In this lot are two Nuevo Cadiz trade bead necklaces from the 1800's. The first necklace is made of eight Nuevo Cadiz beads measuring from 3/4" to 1" long and 1/2" X 1/2". Between the Nuevo Cadiz beads are six blue skunk beads with red and white dots. This necklace is strung on raffia and has split at the bottom and been retied. This necklace measures 24" in circumference. The second necklace has nine Nuevo Cadiz beads and four beads made of Gneiss stone from Mali. The smallest Nuevo Cadiz bead measures 1/2" X 1/2" X 1/2" and the largest measures 2 1/4" long X 1/4" X 1/4". The Gneiss beads measure 2" to 1 1/2" long and 5/8" across. Between these beads are orange, round, 1/2" glass "coral" beads. This necklace is strung on cotton string and measures 28 1/2" in circumference. The beads and necklaces are in fair to good condition, with minor damage due to age and wear. Provenance: letter of appraisal from Out-West Designs, L. W. Dinneen, dated May 2, 1999, with a value of $800 (for the second necklace).
