<p>
c. 1850 Petite Carved & Gilded Urns

<p>
This handsome pair of antique Italian Altar urn lamps was discovered in Northern Italy. This petite set is carved in wood, slip coated with gesso and embellished with golden gilt. The gilding has mellowed and worn to produce a beautiful patina.
<p>
The bases are in wonderful condition for objects of this age. Expectedly there are nicks, chips and small losses to the gilded surface adding to the pair's decorative appeal. We detect a few small older repairs and small spots where the gilt was retouched at a later date.

<p>
Newly converted into lamp bases, the urns would originally have served ornaments upon an altar. A new wood post has been sympathetically mounted on the back to conceal the electrical wiring, the wood then stained to blend with the old coloration. The lamps are newly electrified to Europe standards, the socket and plug may need to be changed for use outside Europe.

<p>

Each lamp stands approximately: 10" tall (not including the socket). The gilded rectangular base measures approximately: 7.5" x 4"
