This is an original work of art portrait painting of Elisha Mann Warner (1818-1884) at the age of 21, circa 1839. The piece is attributed to artist Thomas Sully (1783-1872) an American portrait painter, who was born in Britain but lived most of his life in Philadelphia. Provenance: The piece is from the Anne Burnham Moore estate, a direct relative of Elias M. Warner. Both Elias and Warner were both direct relatives to Elias Boudinot President of the Continental Congress 1782-1783. The family had direct relations with such pieces of American History like George Washington and Marquis de Lafayette, both of which had portraits by Thomas Sully. The piece shows a simple gilt gold wood frame with early period stretched canvas and paint. The piece shows a rich deep coloring. Elisha M. Warner was son of Captain Samuel Warner (of the Providence Marine Society Certificate listed previously). The piece overall is in well preserved condition for its rich age (shows a slight puncture as pictured). Reverse marked as shown. Frame is 36.25"x31.25” and 2 3/8" thick. Canvas frame is 29.75"x24.75”.
