Middle 19th century four-door step-back long leaf pine cabinet measures 80-3/4" tall, 39-1/2" wide and 19-3/4" deep. The side panels are fashioned from one piece of 1"X39-1/2" pine. These panels have dadoes to accept the ½"X___" shelves. The upper doors contained punched tin panels with a pinwheel design (now replaced due to rot). The lower set of doors contains flat panels. The back is constructed of ___ 1"X__" vertical boards, which are chamfered at top and attached by a dado and cut nails.

This utilitarian piece is attributed to the craftsmanship of H. P. Daviss, a Freestone County master cabinetmaker residing in Fairfield. The cabinet was acquired when the Blaine log house was purchased. The Blaine, Compton, High, Philpot and other Morgan County, Alabama families immigrated to Freestone County in or shortly after 1850 and settled on Avant Prairie (now Dew) and built their log homes and became successful planters. Daviss was related to Horatio Paxton Philpot.
