Gorgeous, hand carved, Pacific Northwest display relic. This is a Salish carved paddle at 54 inches. Signed "E. TIENN" at the top. Construction is likely dark western cedar. The carved pattern appears to be of traditional style animals when paddle is down and back to back indigenous female figures when paddle end is pointed up. The pattern is repeated four times throughout and possibly represents a family identity. May not believed to be a ceremonial object but an art object depicting a family history. By the reversible pattern, detail, symmetry and overall appeal, this piece was the work of a highly skilled craftsman and the artists name, carved in the top of the handle, "E. TIENN" warrants further research. Condition is very good with a minor chip mid-length. Please see photo.
