(23 x 29.2 x 25.7 cm) $8,000-12,000 This pair of dishes formed part of a service supplied in 1844 to Louis-Philippe (1773-1850) for use at the ch‚teau de Bizy, Vernon, Normandy, which, although built circa 1740 by Contant d’Ivry (1698-1777) for Charles-Louis-Auguste Fouquet, duc de Belle-Isle (1684-1761), and later owned by Louis XV (1710-1774), had belonged to his mother, Louise-Marie-AdÈlaÔde de Bourbon-PenthiËvre, duchesse de Chartres et d’OrlÈans (1753-1821), and before that to her father, Louis-Jean-Marie de Bourbon, duc de PenthiËvre (1725-1793), grandson of Louis XIV (1638-1715). During the 18 years of his reign (1830-1848), Louis-Philippe embellished the ch‚teau, famous for its stables inspired by those of Versailles, which had been rebuilt in the early 19th century, and stayed there regularly.
