During the Empire (1804-1815) and the Restoration (1815-1824), the reputation of Pierre-Antoine BellangÈ (1758-1827), maÓtre in 1788, grew consistently. He first supplied furniture to Napoleon and his circle, including Berthier, prince de Wagram, whose hÙtel particulier on the rue Neuve-des-Capucines and ch‚teau de Grosbois he furnished with pieces in mahogany between 1807 and 1812. In 1811, he was on the list of ÈbÈnistes recommended to the Garde-Meuble. Later he became ÈbÈniste brevetÈ du Garde-Meuble de la Couronne and then part of its administration. BellangÈ’s client, whose name is inscribed on a paper label beneath the seatrail of each of the present chairs, was identified by Ledoux-Lebard as Jean de LariboisiËre (1759-1812), one of Napoleon’s generals who was killed at Koenigsberg.
