The stamp found on the present firescreen could be that of either Claude Chapuis, a Parisian marchand-ÈbÈniste working on the rue de la Chaise in 1797 and then on the rue de la Tonnellerie until 1818, or Jean-Joseph Chapuis (1765-1864), a Brussels ÈbÈniste active on the rue de la Montaigne in 1795, the rue de Borgval in 1798, and the rue de Loxum until the end of his career circa 1830. The latter was mentioned in the Almanach du Commerce until in 1824. He supplied furniture to the ch‚teau de Laeken.
