PRINT ALBUM
A large collection of prints, mezzotints, engravings, pencil and water colour drawings, mounted on approximately 187 pages, with a number of loose items, mostly of Scottish interest. Included is a collection of over sixty 16th century portraits, and a number of fine 18th century mezzotint portraits. Many of the Scottish scenes are dry point etchings (some hand coloured) by John Clerk of Eldin. There are some engravings of Roman scenes after Piranesi and a number of engravings after Hogarth depicting the Harlot's Progress (but in reverse of the original engravings). There are hand coloured versions of Rowlandson's Miseries personal and Quakers' meetings. There are a number of engravings and drawings of antiquities, two engravings of the Conservatory at Carlton House, and a fine portrait of the remarkable Sarah Biffen (1784-1850), the miniature painter, who, being without arms, hands or legs, painted by mouth. There is a handsome coloured early 19th century Indian drawing of two figures. There is an original water colour by Francis Grosse and numerous prints after Thomas Barker of Bath. The album was probably compiled during the first half of the 19th century.
