STC 20210, 20233A and 20276, Preston, a great scholar with a fine command of English, succeeded the great John Donne as preacher at Lincoln's Inn in 1622. Thomas Ball, his biographer, described him as "of an able, firme, well-tempered constitution, comely visage, vigorous and vivid eye".
