PRESENTATION VOLCANIC IN ORIGINAL BOX. An outstanding New Haven Arms Lever Action Pocket Pistol, with 3.5" barrel, marked "New Haven Ct. Patent Feb 14, 1854.". Silver-plated and factory engraved, this example still in it's original paste-board box, with paper label "Plated and Engraved" on one end. Retains about 90% original plating, brass appearing only in a few areas around front of the ejector and on frame rear of the sight and hammer. Barrel and other blued parts 90%, with a few scratches visible on barrell. Two-piece walnut grips retaining nearly 100% of original varnish. Butt engraved "Theodore H. Rockwood From the First Baptist Choir, New Haven." Theodore Rockwood, a New Haven resident, was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in Co E of the 1st CT Heavy Artillery in 1861 on May 23, and was promoted to Captain in December of that same year. He served with the 1st heavy until he was promoted to Major in December, 1863, when he was transferred to the 19th Connecticut Infantry. During his service with the first heavy, Rockwood was engaged throughout the Penninsula at Yorktown, Hanover Court House, Chickahominy, Gaines Mills and Malvern Hill. After his promotion to major and subseqeunt transfer to the 19th CT Infantry, Rockwood was killed in the assault on Petersburg in June 1864. WITH an original jappaned tin cartridge box for 200 cartridges for the pistol retaining the original printed label, and a worn copy of "The Military and Civil History of Connecticut during the War of 1861-65." An outstanding weapon, in terrific, untouched condition. Paste-board box solid, though with wear on box margins, and separation along one seam in bottom.
