SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 2773a. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM in 1913 for the Imperial German military. The bbl. extension is marked "1913" over the chamber, with a "K" (not previously seen by this cataloger), followed by DWM arsenal proofs marked on the right. Left side of the bbl. and breechblock exhibiting a late 1920s / early 1930s period droop eagle proof. These eagle proofs, paired with the "K" stamp, likely indicate that this example was rebuilt sometime in the late 1920s to the early 1930s. Right side of the frame exhibits a small Imperial proof, indicating that this example was returned to the arsenal during the Imperial era to be retrofitted with a hold-open device. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece non-matching period replacement grips. Serrated blade front sight with V-notch rear sight. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, and toggles. Hold-open latch and trigger bar are mismatched, with the rear toggle pin being a later Mauser production replacement. Most numbers were likely reapplied at the time of rebuild/refurbishment. MAGS: 1 blued "fxo" 8-rd., with non-matching (S#: "5651") black synthetic plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster marked with a mostly illegible mfg. above "1940" and mostly illegible acceptance proof marking. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their reapplied blue finish, showing some spots of mild edge wear fading to gray patina, scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as scattered spots/patches of light to mild pitting beneath the bluing overall. Bright bore, exhibiting light pitting, while retaining good to strong rifling throughout. Trigger must be held down for several seconds before firing pin is tripped. Grips are poorly fit, showing wear, smoothing, as well as scattered handling marks and impressions. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting general overall wear, scattered marks from handling ands storage, and some areas of age related cracking. Top of closure flap exhibits a small hole. An intriguing "1913" date DWM P.08 Luger. (25-5222/MLW). CURIO. $700-1,100.
