(1875 - 1964) French conductor who led the world premiere of Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" and Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloe". Founder of Paris Symphony (1928). Later led San Francisco Symphony (1936-52). A neat association grouping, an original, complete printed invitation from President John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy, addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Monteux, inviting them to dinner at the White House on Friday, May 11, 1962, in honor of "His Excellency The Minister of State in charge of Cultural Affairs of the Republic of France and Madame Malraux". Included is the original invitation with gold-embossed Presidential seal, a small card reading "Black Tie", an RSVP card, a card admitting the Monteuxs to the Southwest Gate of the White House, and original transmittal envelope. In fine condition.
