PIERRE G. T. BEAUREGARD

Currency:USD Category:Collectibles / Militaria Start Price:150.00 USD Estimated At:300.00 - 400.00 USD
PIERRE G. T. BEAUREGARD
(1818-1893) Confederate major general who initiated the attack on Fort Sumter that started the Civil War. He also led with distinction at First Bull Run, Shiloh, and in the defense of Richmond. A great post-war Beauregard piece, a 2 1/4" x 3 3/4" pass issued by the New Orleans, Jackson, and Great Northern Railroad, of which Beauregard was president, signed across the face by Beauregard adding his title, thus validating the pass for use. The pass, dated New Orleans, Jan. 19, 1869, is issued to: "Mr. R. Potter, Scty. Cin. & Indianapolis RR Co.". Interestingly, the verso notes: "...The person accepting this FREE PASS assumes all risks of accidents...". Light soiling, else very good. Beauregard was president of the railroad during a hostile takeover.

Estimate: $300 - 400.
