(1825 - 1875) Confederate major general who formed the brigades for the ill-fated charge on the fianl day at Gettysburg. Pickett never forgave Lee for the destruction of his command, and died a bitter man. Rare war-date A.L.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., "Hd Qtrs. Divn.", May 13, [1864] to James Longstreet's A.A.G., Captain John W. Riely. In full: "My dear Captain I send by one of my couriers a document for [Gen. Gilbert Moxley] Sorrel. Will you please give it to your expressman who goes up tomorrow to be delivered immediately - Have you any news? Very Truly yours G. E. Pickett." Light uneven toning, usual veritcal folds, otherwise very good condition. Pickett is, of course, rare in war-date material.
