PHOTOGRAPH OF STANDING BUFFALO BY C.M. BELL. Albumen photograph, 5 x 7.5" mounted on larger board of this Ponca chief. Not signed, but attributed to Bell on the basis of studio props. Bell was a long-time Washington photographer who captured images of visiting Americana Indian delegation members (see Fleming and Richardson, 1988). Purchased from the Rookwood Pottery when the studio was moved in the 1960s; probably originally purchased from the Bureau of American Ethology.
