PHOTOGRAPH OF COMMANCHE SQUAW BY ALEXANDER GARDNER. Albumen photograph, 5 x 7.5" mounted on larger board. Titled in negative "Comanche" and strip label as "Wife of Cheevers." Negative probably by Alexander Gardner as part of a treaty delegation in Washington in 1872. Printed later by the Bureau of American Ethnology and sold to the Rookwood Pottery of Cincinnati, Ohio. Purchased from Rookwood when the company moved in the early 1960s. With their handstamp on verso. Mount with several chips, and cracks, one extending into the bottom of the print about .25".
