PHOTOGRAPH OF AMERICAN HORSE BY C.M. BELL. Albumen photograph, 5 x 7" mounted on larger board. Not signed, but attributed to Bell on the basis of studio props. Bell was a long-time Washington photographer who captured images of visiting Americana Indian delegation members (see Fleming and Richardson, 1988). This image from the Rookwood Pottery files, and purchased when the business disbanded in the 1960s; probably originally purchased from the Bureau of American Ethology. With their typed strip label on recto and handstamp on verso.Mount slightly warped, print fine, with hint of surface soil.
