PHOEBE HEARST
(1842 - 1919) American philanthropist, feminist and suffragist, the mother of William Randolph Hearst. She was a major benefactor of the University of California, Berkeley and its first woman Regent, contributed to the establishment of what became the PTA, and founded the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology. A.L.S. 2pp. 16mo., [Belgrade], Sept. 1, 1895 to the U.S. Minister mentioning her visit to the National Museum and expressing her hope to meet him.
