A.L.S. as State Senator, 2pp. folio, New York, Mar. 20, 1795 concerning The Council of Appointment's resolve "...that a court be instituted to enquire what rank David McCarty Esquire held in the late Army of the United States or in the troops raised for the defense of this state, or in the militia thereof previous to his appointment of Brigadier General...When the council met in September last no report had been made...previous to my leaving Albany...General Gainsevoort [sic] informed me that he had not received any orders to institute such court of enquiry...I hope it is not improper to suggest the propos[al] of a renewal of the order to quiet the minds of the Officers affected by the Appointment aforesaid...".
