PHOTOGRAPHICA: A 'Magic Lantern'', highly collectable Lodge Lantern by Pettibone Brothers Manufacturing Company, ''Military and Society Goods', Ohio. The Arc Lodge Lantern appears to have been originally kerosene but now has been adapted for use with an electric light. The whole unit is mounted on a trimmed edge oak base and supported by gilt six brass footed arms. There are two chrome supporting side rods, with two having the original finales in place and two missing. The overall size is 21 ¼''L x 12''W x 13'' H. The lantern comes with a single wheel containing 10 scenes. The aluminum revolving disk or wheel is marked 'W. L. Smith, patented January 17, 1888 ', 'The Pettibone Brothers', with ten round 4'' frames. One frame shows the Pettibone manufacturing and retail store and nine are historical scenes of the Roman - Greek period, hand painted. Note: one glass has a faint crack. Included is the original painted wood box with hinged lid containing original instructions for use as a ''burning Sciopticon'.
