PERU, Lima, gold cob 2 escudos, 1710 H, NGC MS 64 (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), ex-McGregor. S-L25a; Cal-1828; KM-36; Fr-9. 6.72 grams. Astoundingly lustrous and light in color with surfaces that Flemming says "look like they came from the mint yesterday," with sharply detailed full cross-lions-castles and pillars-and-waves on a broad flan enabling much legend ending in a full HISPANI, also with 7 of second date in legend next to crown (hence 10 was not on the die). Note: weight is stated on label erroneously as 16.72 grams. From the 1715 Fleet (South Colored Beach site, now known as Douglass Beach), with original Cobb Coin Co. (Mel Fisher) photo-certificate 16988 and Philip Flemming photo-certificate from 2013, pedigreed to the McGregor Collection (stated on label).
