PERU, Cuzco, gold cob 2 escudos, 1698 M, RX error, broad flan ("Lima" cut), NGC MS 62 / "2010 Cannon" (1715 Fleet Shipwreck Label), ex-McGregor, PLVS VLTRA cover coin. S-CZ1; Cal-855; KM-28; Fr-4. 6.70 grams. Extremely lustrous and well struck on a very broad flan with full central details and legends including error RX for REX, no doubling, particularly desirable as one of 48 2 escudos cobs found inside a swivel cannon in 2010 at Corrigans, just after (same month) William and Brent Brisben bought the rights and formed Queens Jewels LLC, the three large-flan Cuzco coins like this one described by Flemming as "almost certainly the most important coins to emerge from the Cannon Find," of which he considered this one to be "arguably the best of them." From the "2010 Cannon Find" of the 1715 Fleet (Corrigans/Cannon Wreck), with original Queens Jewels tag and photo-certificate 73188 and with Philip Flemming photo-certificate from 2018, cover coin on the 3rd Quarter 2010 issue of PLVS VLTRA Newsletter, pedigreed to the McGregor Collection (stated on label).
