Paul Revere Jr. Made Silver Spoon Hallmarked “REVERE”
(PAUL REVERE, JR.) (1735-1818), Famous American Silversmith of Boston, Patriot of the Revolutionary War Era Massachusetts, Son of Liberty who made the historic “Paul Revere’s Ride” warning “The British are Coming!”.
This is an original, authentic and quite ornate, bright-cut, 4.5 inch long Silver Spoon, likely a sugar spoon, Handmade by Paul Revere, Jr., Hallmarked by him “REVERE,” Choice Very Fine. This ornate styled, circa 1800 spoon, has a swag-form “Shell” design on the back of elongated oval bowls. It has a rounded, upturned handle, with a mid-rib on the front, and the inscribed initials, "B E J" also hand-engraved in block style letters on back of handle. There is light even wear from use and has a pleasing natural patina. It is hallmark stamped with perhaps the fullest and best design Paul Revere hallmark, "REVERE" with a small bullet dot to the left of “R” within a rectangular punch which is located on the back side of the handle, as usual. This specific hallmark punch design is shown illustrated on page 64, as mark number 7, used by Paul Revere, Jr. in the book, “PAUL REVERE GOLDSMITH 1735 - 1818” by Kathryn C. Buhler, published by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, A truly wonderful, ornate and decorative designed spoon made by America’s most famous silversmith, Paul Revere. This example having his premium "REVERE" style hallmark, that shows very clear.
Paul Revere, Jr. (1734-1818), the son of French Hugenot immigrant Apollos de Revoire (Anglicized to Paul Revere, Sr.). Though a prominent Silversmith in his day, Revere is, of course, best remembered for his patriotic endeavors and his famed midnight ride.
